Are you ready to have your mind blown with amazing engagement photos that speak directly to you and your partners love? If you answered, heck yes! Then keep reading because I am giving away my secret sauce to creating and having the most epic engagement session! Let’s get to it!
Top 4 Tips On Creating The Most Epic Engagement Photos From A California & Destination Wedding & Couples Photographer
01. Location
If you know me, you know that nature is my jam. I’m a huge fan of beautiful scenery – mountains, oceans, trees, it’s all so photogenic and breathtaking. Naturally when clients ask me for a location recommendation for their engagement photos I choose a beautiful outdoor location (especially one in the CA Eastern Sierra). BUT I don’t want you to think you can’t get good photos if nature is not your thing. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable. So if the outdoors isn’t for you or if you don’t want to drive too far, or it’s cold outside, choose somewhere that’s special to the two of you – maybe it’s your home, or the coffee shop where you had your first date. Whatever location you choose, just make sure it reflects your personalities and let my creativity handle the rest!
02. Outfits
Outfits can either make or break an engagement session. While that might sound a tad bit dramatic, it is important that the colors, patterns, and textures of your clothing compliment the location for your engagement photos. Styling your session might sound overwhelming, but I that is why I am here to help! I have a full style guide that I will send you once you’re booked, we will collaborate on a Pinterest board, and I’m always here for you to bounce ideas off of. While my style guide will go into more depth, the most important tip I can give you is to dress like yourself. Wear what makes you feel confident and what you feel comfortable in.
03. Timing
The time of day that we take your engagement photos is so important because lighting can completely change the vibe of your photos. The prime times to take photos is during golden hour (during sunrise or sunset). I recommend starting either half an hour before sunrise, or an hour before sunset for the best lighting. Taking engagement photos will allow us to get that gorgeous glow that makes everything look soft and pretty. Sunrise is my personal favorite time of day for sessions because there tends to be less crowds, especially in popular locations.
04. Have Fun!
Having fun is hands down the most important thing when it comes to taking engagement photos. When you have fun, your photos will radiate so much joy. I know wedding planning gets hectic (trust me, I’ve been there!), and you might be worried about how you look or how your engagement photos will turn out, but I will do everything in my power to ensure you look your best and have a good time. So relax, enjoy the moment, and let’s have fun!
